Book Review: Adam by Ted Dekker

Description of the book via Amazon.com: FBI behavioral psychologist Daniel Clark is a man on a mission. After over a year of tracking a mysterious serial killer known as Eve, he feels closer than ever to discovering the murderer's true identity when he finds Eve's latest victim still alive. In an effort to save the girl, Daniel narrowly escapes becoming another casualty on Eve's list. Despite seeing the killer with his own eyes, a gunshot wound to the head leaves him with amnesia, unable to remember any details from the incident. His drive to find the killer takes on a whole new meaning when Eve takes yet another victim, one Daniel knows all too well-his estranged wife Heather. Determined to bring her back alive, Daniel takes his obsession to a dangerous new level, even recreating his own near-death experience in attempt to recall anything from his encounter with Eve. Soon enough he finds himself fighting for Heather's life, and, in the end, his own.

Character Development: I felt like this book did a great job at capturing the internal struggle Daniel had throughout the book. I felt like, for being such a main character, they didn’t capture Heather to well but also did great at giving you the profile of Lori.

Main theme: There are a lot of themes throughout the book. You are captured with the struggle of “does God exist?” “How can religion and science co-exist?” As well as a lot of spiritual warfare and how that plays into Daniel’s life.

My Thoughts: I was enthralled by this book. It was beautifully written and completely engaging. I was able to read the book cover to cover in a day. This book was extremely hard to put down because you kept wanting to know what happens next. As with all Ted Dekker books, the twist at the end, even when expected, takes you off guard. You may think you know what is about to happen, but once again, I found myself shocked at multiple points.

Recommended: I would highly recommend this book.
