Book Review: Getting In God's Face by Dutch Sheets

Description of the book via Amazon.com: Is Prayer really necessary? Why does it often take so long to get a prayer answered? What about praying for non-Christian friends? What exactly is intercessory prayer? Is everything that happens to me or my family allowed by God? Or, is there something I need to do to make sure we're safe? For students with questions about prayer, Getting in God's Face takes them on a journey to find God's answers to the big questions about prayer. Powerful stories and proven strategies for interceding with God will increase their understanding and their faith when they read of how God uses prayer to accomplish Hiss purposes on Earth.

Main Theme: This is one of the most practical, “hands on” books on prayer I’ve read in a long time. I found myself underlining almost entire chapters. I feel like Dutch Sheets not only gives examples of how it has played out in his life, but gives great tools in how the supernatural can function in the life of a believer. The book is very practical, in that it isn’t sensationalist driven, but practical and biblically based.

My Thoughts: I have read a number of books on prayer, but never been more inspired or driven to pursue God after reading a book like I have with this one. I’m always skeptical when it comes to books on prayer, because some people base a lot on emotion and this is a very practical guide explaining how emotions play a role, faith plays a role and that at times silence or “dullness” doesn’t mean God is not working. This is one that I have referenced back to already and will definitely be reading again. There is so much richness and hidden gems throughout the book.

Recommended: I highly recommend this book, especially if you’re still trying to figure out what prayer is and how you, as a believer, play a role in that.
